WHY WOOD? Wood has been man’s primary source for building since building began. It is a durable, renewable, and beautiful natural resource. While man has recently developed "man made" products as an alternative to wood used on decks (composites), several points should be noted. Regardless of the material, nothing is maintenance free, and nothing retains the appearance it had the day it was freshly installed. Can you name something that stands as an exception? Also, no man made substitute developed to date can approach the natural beauty and appearance of wood, especially wood that is properly cared for. The beauty of wood grain enhanced by our sealer/stain has wonderful eye appeal.

Decks made of wood can be "refreshed" and brought back to like-new with a cleaning and re-sealing every few years. It will look good and last a long time. This is clearly illustrated in our before and after photo montage - we can protect and beautify your wood deck, even if it hasn’t had care for a few years.

COMMON SPECIES: Some species of trees are better suited for outdoor use than others. Among the most durable of these are Cedar and Redwood. They are attractive in color and grain and naturally more resistant to the elements. In the Mid-Atlantic region, pressure treated Pine is more commonly used. It is an affordable alternative, and after treatment, provides good resistance to rotting and infestation by wood eating insects.

PROTECTION: Once a living system, a tree's natural protective qualities no longer exist to ward off its enemies - the elements. This is why wood must be protected periodically by cleaning and sealing. Without help, like anything else, it will not last or retain its natural beauty.
